A Tale of Two Games
5/31/2019

This was a tale of two games, if there ever was one.

First, there was the first four...

During the first four, Union Hill starter Luke Zweber did a nice job mixing up his pitches to wiggle out of jams and hold the Muskies in check. Given what would happen in the second half of the game, the book got a little wonky, but as far as I can tell/recall we plated two runs against Zweber on seven hits. Tip o' the cap to the Bulldogs starter.

UH jumped out to a second-inning 1-0 lead thanks to an unearned run (RBI single from Jack Becker scored Matt Collins). But Muskies starter and resident beefcake Brent "Brett" Herber didn't really give UH much of a chance after that. He pitched seven solid innings, scattering seven hits, walking none, and fanning seven.

Then, there was the next five...

Vocca got the scoring started in the 5th after Ni. Rost singled to start the inning and Herber walked. Two batters and two outs later, Vocca delivered a clutch single to left, scoring the two aforementioned runs. But the two-out rally wasn't done: The Nate Rost singled, Kyle "Ballgame" Bergstrom singled, and then Tyler Bergstrom singled, all resulting in two more runs. 4-1 Fish after five.

We would add one more in the 7th thanks to another KBB single, bringing the tally to 5-1, where it would remain until the 9th, when all hell broke loose.

The book becomes an absolute dumpster fire at this point, so I'll just summarize: there were lots of walks, hit batsmen, and two ding-dongs; a three-run blast from Firpo to get the party started, and a grand salami from Squeak Bergstrom to give everyone that happy feeling inside. We would score twelve times in the frame, all told. We only had three hits: the two dingers and a single from Ni. Rost---the rest of the damage came on walks and HBP.

Firpo took the hill for the last two, and, as per usual, gently closed the door on UH.

Another well managed game by the skipper, Todd Bergstrom, another solid team win for the Water Wigglers.
