The headline says it all: The Nate Rost was really good on Sunday. According to Nick Gerhardt from the Minnesota Baseball Association website, TNR was "nearly unhittable." Hard to argue with that assessment. Big fella threw 95 pitches, facing only two batters over the minimum.
We didn't collect a lot of hits, but the ones we got were clutch, and we capitalized on Dumont's fielding miscues, four of which came in our three-run third. That being said, we had our fair share of loud outs too. In the 2nd, Ni. Rost smoked one to left that was ultimately caught at the track, and in the 3rd K. Bergstrom did the exact same thing to right.
Back to the three-run 3rd.
Sweet Baby Joe McKibben started the inning by reaching on an error. Stewart would take his spot at first on a fielder's choice. K. Henkemeyer laid one down that the Dumont first basemen couldn't handle. This allowed Stewart to take third on the play. The All-Star, Scotty Lyden, followed this up with a sharp single to right, scoring Stew. Henkemeyer would come around to score as TNR reached on an error, and Scotty scored on another Dumont error.
Three zip Fish after three.
We'd add one more in the 5th thanks to another Scotty Lyden RBI single (scoring Stewart from second, who reached on an HBP and stole second).
It was an all-around solid game for the Muskie boys. Outstanding pitching, good defense, timely hitting, and a raucous group of supportive fans.
Special thanks to Capt. Josh Storlie for getting us there and back in one piece, and thanks to everyone who came out and cheered us on! Let's do it again next Sunday. We take on the Kimball Express in Norwood at 2:30. Should be a hoot, hope to seeya there.
