Having turned the page on last Friday's debacle in Dundas, we got back to league play on Sunday against Union Hill, one of the only DRS teams we've yet to face this year (the other being Faribault--and we get them twice in the span of a few days: this coming Saturday and then the following Tuesday).
As you might have gathered from the headline, our big fellas pitched well: TNR threw seven strong innings, scattering just as many hits, walking no one, and striking out four. Despite it not being a save situation, DB came in for the 8th and continued doing what Nate did: throwing hard, throwing strikes, getting outs.
As far as the offensive side of the ledger goes, el web maestro would like to point out to all the faithful readers that with his first slow-trot yesterday, Andy Henkemeyer set a new single-season Muskies home run record with his 1st inning blast. Kyle Bergstrom hit 10 in 2012 and 2015, but as they say, records are made to be broken [CLICHÉ #1]. Andy would hit another in his next AB, bringing his season total to 12. Never to be outdone, TNR added one of his own in the first--back-to-back style--bringing his total to 10. Having wrapped up a spot in the Region 3C tourney with our victory yesterday, this little battle between Nate and Andy will add an extra layer of intrigue to the rest of the regular season and beyond (though of course, for the record, we all play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back (if we were to have names on said back) [CLICHÉ #2].
Other notes from yesterday's game:
Both Henkemeyer brothers had themselves three knocks, as did Harry Ballantyne.
And with his two knocks yesterday, el web maestro brought his career hit total to 399.
On a related note, T. Bergstrom is sitting at 295, just a few shy of 300.
Milestones and records, it's one of the myriad things that makes this game great.
That's all I can think of right now.
Seeya Saturday in New Market at 2pm as we take on the Lakers from Faribault.
