10-2 Loss To Dundas Not Without Its Enjoyable Moments
7/9/2016

Given the 10-2 loss to the Dukes last night, it's hard to call anything that happened a "highlight," so we'll go with the term "event," of which there are a few notable ones. Event #4 is arguably the event (forget it) hightlight of the year.

1.) Two Rosts ejected: some incredible banter between Rick Rost and Umpire Guy ("noooo, you've got 'little man syndrome'!); some solid post-ejection batting glove throwing in the general direction of Umpire Guy by Nick Rost [NOTE: el web maestro better get BOTH of his BGs back, Rooster!].

2.) Four different Bergstroms get ABs: that's more than most family reunion softball games.

3.) Scotty Lyden pitched great in relief: 3.1 IP, not a single runner scored on his watch, and 2 Ks to boot.

4.) An incredible gutty performance by Todd Bergstrom who metaphorically stepped up in spirit and literally stepped up to the plate in the wake of the aforementioned ejections: #25 on his warmup, #17 on the roster (apparently), #1 in our hearts.

Shaky iPhone camera work notwithstanding, the video is well-worth the thirty seconds of your time.

Now, if I may offer a brief analysis on the above event...

1.) To begin, Coach Dumbo looks like he has an approach, like he wants to be up there in big situations.

2.) Like John Olerud, Dave Winfield, and other such greats, Dumbo went flapless helmet: style points ✓

3.) That's an aggressive take on the first pitch, meaning Dumbo knows what he's looking for, he has a plan for success.

4.) He absolutely does square up that ball; it just so happened to be right at the Dundas shortstop. Alas.

5.) Though he appears to have pulled/strained every muscle below his torso, I think he might've been safe: solid 90 ✓
