Muskies Clinch Spot in the 2015 State Tourney with Win Over Irish
8/2/2015

And for the third year in a row the Fish are headed to the State Tourney!!! In fact, yesterday we became the first team in the state to earn a spot.

The game didn't get off to a great start for us: St. Patrick scored one in the first after two pop-ups that could've been caught weren't---both during the second at-bat of the game. And then in the third the Irish got back-to-back one out singles from the Ambroz brothers---Seth would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.

But then we got the bats going in the bottom of the third to the tune of four runs. With one out in the inning, McGuiggan hit an opp-taco solo shot deep over the right center field wall. Scotty Lyden followed suit with a sharp double, and then K. Bergstrom hit an absolute missle over the right field fence for a two-run dinger. Nate Rost wanted to get in on the action, which he did by launching a oppo-taco solo shot of his own deep over the right-center field fence. Three dingers in four batters. That was the end of the day for Irish starter Bill Bunker.

Derek came in for Ripp with one out in the 5th. From my perspective in left, it looked like the Muskies starter was throwing hard, but might have been leaving some sliders over the plate. Not sure though, have yet to break it down with the man himself. Anyway, Derek came in and shut the door, allowing only a single run in the 6th.

We would add two more runs in the 7th after McGuiggan doubled and Scotty singled; we would add one more in the 8th on a Ripp double. And that would be all she wrote.

Pretty much everyone hit the ball hard all day long, and unlike the Shakopee game, they were falling (or going over the fence). Scotty stayed scorshing hot, picking up three more knocks. McGuiggan, K. Bergstrom, and Na. Rost also had multiple hits on the day.

Now we play for seeding. Worst case we get the #3 seed, best case the #1. Our next game is on Sunday in New Market at 2pm. Let's keep filling that Fish Bowl, you fans, the seven of you who read this, are the best! Let's go.
