One of the biggest differences between this season and last is that this year all of our non-league games are against really good teams. Not that we scheduled cupcakes last year, but this season Todd went out of his way to line up games against tough competition, and we love it.
Yesterday was no exception, as we travelled to Dundas to take on the Dukes. The Big Lefty took the hill for us and we even had most of our starters. Things were looking promising. At the end of the day we lost 8-4, but that score is somewhat deceiving. We had the Dukes on the ropes 4-3 going into the bottom of the 8th, but they took advantage of a few errors--just like we did early in the game--and they put up a five spot. Same story against Jordan and Cannon Falls earlier in the season: we're up by a few runs going into the late innings and we just couldn't manage to hold on. Of course we've had some wins in those situations as well, but for some reason the losses are easier to remember.
What you need to know about last night is that Derek battled for us, and he looked really good once he settled in, which happened in about the third inning or so. Also, Kyle hit a big fly in the 6th to give us the lead (rumor has it he has philosophical reasons for not hitting dingers in St. Benedict), and pretty much everyone put together quality ABs, especially the bottom of the order. Although it was mildly comical when one of our youngsters looked nothing short of appalled when he was ask to---gasp---take a pitch. It's the little things.
Okay, Muskiss take on Lonsdale tonight in Lonsdale, let's go, Dorfer out.
