Weekend Update (May 2-3)
5/4/2015

Two ball games for the Fish this past weekend, two nice wins.

For whatever reason we came out of the chute a little flat against Webster on Saturday. After loading the bases in the 1st with nobody out we only managed to score one. To their credit, they took advantage of their baserunners and didn't make any errors. We left about sixteen guys on base. But we stuck with it and battled back from a three run deficit, getting three in the 7th and a walk-off single from Kyle Bergstrom in the 10th. Derek Bergstrom didn't start the game but pitched marvelously in relief for the W.

On Sunday we played much better against St. Patrick. Their lead-off hitter hit a dinger to start off the game, but that didn't phase The Nate Rost. We got that run back right away in the bottom of the frame, and would build a comfortable lead by the end of the 4th inning. A very nice all-around team performance.

Some noteworthy pitching stats from this weekend (courtesy of Kyle Bergstrom, el Web Maestro always cites his sources):

-- On Saturday, Webster starter (and former NMM state tourney draftee circa '13) walked 12 batters.

-- On Satuday, Muskie relief pitched Derek Bergstrom recorded 7 strikeouts in a row, and punched-out 11 in 5 IP.

-- On Sunday, Muskie starter Nate Rost walked zero batters and struck out 12 on 100 pitches. In 9 innings he threw only 19 balls, which comes out to be 2.1 balls/inning. Efficiency, my friends.
