And the Fish continue to pound the baseball.
This was a back and forth game. Sweet Baby Joe McKibben got the Fish on the board with a clutch two-out RBI single in the 2nd. But the Muskies found themselves trailing the Irish after four innings thanks to a six-run frame by the opposing squad in the 3rd. A few errors/misplayed balls and boom, St. Patrick had an 8-3 lead.
Then we put up a seven-spot in the 4th and never looked back. The big blow of the inning was a three-run shot from Herber deep over the center field fence. Scotty "Spokes" Lyden added a three-run slow trot of his own in the 6th after being robbed of one in the 4th.
Squeak
All of the starters had at least one hit. Danny, Scotty, and Andy had two apiece; Vocca and Kyle had three, and The Nate Rost had a perfect 4-4 day at the dish, with a walk and HBP to boot.
On the pitching side of the ledger, we had three guys go three innings each. Herber vultured the win, thanks in part to two timely acrobatic catches by two extremely athletic Muskies outfielders.
At the end of the day, we would put 16 runs up on 19 hits. I like our chances when we score 16.
Now we wait to see who we play on Friday even in Veseli or Saturday afternoon in New Market for the #1 seed in the Region. Stay tuned.
