Thanks to everyone who came out today and helped us celebrate the career of Tom Carpentier and another DRS Championship! It was a great day from start to finish. Great speech Carp, we love you.
And now the game: It was back and forth until the 4th. Actually, New Prague led 4-2 after four innings. But that all changed when we pushed across five in the 5th. McGuiiggan led off with a walk, advanced to third on a single, and came around to score on a K. Bergstrom sac fly. Nate Rost walked, and then fortune smiled upon us as Nick Rost hit a towering fly to center that the fielder lost in the sun. Been there. That's tough. But hey, we'll take it. Scotty came around to score on a Squeak bases loaded walk, Al drove in a run by getting drilled, and then el web maestro plopped one into left center to drive in two more runs for good measure. 7-4 Fish after five.
The Nate Rost came up for Ripp in the 4th and set the tone for the rest of the game. Personally, I thought Ripp was throwing really well, his fastball looked like it had life, etc., but for some reason the Orioles were on him. Anyway, they were not on TNR, as he ended up with the "W" after going 4 2/3 while striking out four and scattering three hits. He also had three knocks, but that's such a normal event it I almost forgot to mention it. But there, I didn't forget.
McGoogs had himself a day. We knew it was only a matter of time, but it was really fun to watch: he led off the game with a double off the tippy-top of the RF wall, and then decided to put one over said wall in the 7th.
D. Bergstrom came in and shut the door in the 9th, because that's what he does.
And with that, the first season comes to an end and now the second season begins. Our playoff run officially gets under way a week from Tuesday (July 28th) at 8PM---the game will be in Elko. Let's go!
