News & Notes 7.26.08 After the 2007 season ended, if you would have told the Muskies that they would finish7-15 in DRS play, under .500 for the year and then be eliminated by Veseli in two games in Regions not a sinlge player would have believed it. I wouldn't have believed it. But that is exactly how things played out. Expectations were very high going into the beginning of this year, however, the Muskies finished a dissapointing season on Friday night at Veseli losing 2-5 to the young Warriors. It really seems like just a few days ago we were playing in a snow storm in Prior Lake opening DRS play. It's hard to believe the year is already over. The season felt much shorter this year for a couple reasons, one we played ten less games than 2007 and second, we never really got on a roll and put together a strong winning streak. The story of the year for New Market was giving up big innings; usually early on in games. Anyone who watched us play would admit that we are a better team than our record and in games where the score was lobsided as it often was, it was due to one terrible inning. On top of this, the team as a whole hit 40 points lower as a whole. The 2008 Muskies had one .300 hitter (T. Chies) while in 2007 they boasted five players well over .300. The 2008 squad scored 130 runs less than the 2007 version, granted in 10 fewer games, but nonetheless, it tells one a lot about our team this year, we didn't hit in clutch situations often, and we didn't have prolonged hot streaks. Not all is negative, though. St. Nicholas Hillside Park got a much needed facelift thanks to some generous local business people and some hard work by many in the community. Any who went to the park this year will surely agree that the improvemets made the baseball experience that much better. The Muskies also brought in some promising young talent and are, as always, optimistic about the next season. Thanks to all the fans, parents, friends and wives who came out to the games and made New Market Muskie Baseball a positive experience in 2008. We'll see ya in eight months. _webmaster |
